A gas station branded fuel card is a fuel card marketed by a specific gas station brand (like Shell, Chevron, Exxon, BP, etc.) that provides a discount at their branded stations to reward their business fleet customers for their brand loyalty. It’s designed for businesses who frequently buy fuel from one brand and want benefits tied to that brand.
Gas station brands partner with fuel card companies like WEX or Corpay to distribute their branded cards using the fuel card company’s network and software. So if you sign up for a Shell fuel card, you’re really getting a Shell-branded card issued by WEX. You use WEX’s portal, and you get access to the WEX network. Each brand sets its own discounts and fees, but the station acceptance and the software experience are controlled by the fuel card issuer. Most of these gas station brands offer two different fuel card options to choose from.

Start by reviewing recent fuel receipts or transaction history to see which branded stations your drivers use most. From there, pick a brand you can realistically fuel at consistently, since rebates are based on the gallons you buy at that brand’s locations (not everywhere else).
In most parts of the U.S., certain gas station brands are consistently higher priced or lower priced in the same area. And sometimes the spread between brands can be as much as 50¢ per gallon. So if you’re locked into a high-priced branded fuel card, you can end up paying more overall, even after the discount or rebate.
To find the cheapest station brands in your area, use GasBuddy. You can also check out these other online fuel price tools that fleet managers use to compare prices.
If it’s tough to pick a branded fuel card because your drivers fuel at a bunch of different brands, a universal fuel card like Voyager usually makes more sense. With the Voyager card, you'll save money on fees and you'll get savings across multiple brands.
And because you’re not tied to one station brand, you can route drivers to the cheapest options along the routes. They'll be buying lower priced fuel and won't waste time and money driving out of the way just to hit a preferred brand.
| Fuel Card | Discounts | Monthly Fee | Late Fee | Accepting Locations |
| Voyager | 3-8¢ at select locations | None | None | 97% of U.S. fuel stations |
Branded fuel cards can work well when your drivers consistently fuel at one brand and the rebates outweigh the fees. But for a lot of fleets, drivers bounce between brands based on routes, job schedules, and whatever’s closest. And when you’re locked into a single brand, it’s easy to end up paying more overall if that brand is priced higher in your market, even after the rebate.
That’s where the P-Fleet Voyager and CFN fuel cards come in. We help businesses simplify fuel management with a flexible fuel card program built around nationwide acceptance, tight purchase controls, and reporting. Instead of forcing your team to hunt down one specific brand, you can give drivers the freedom to fuel where it’s convenient and direct them to the lowest-priced options on their routes.
With P-Fleet, you get the tools to block non-fuel purchases, set limits by driver or vehicle, and track every transaction in your online fuel card portal. The result is fewer surprises on your statements, cleaner reporting, and a fuel program that stays easy to manage as your fleet grows.
